Radon is an odourless, invisible gas that can only be detected by measuring. See how much radon has been measured in your municipality, compare detectors and request a quote for measurement or remediation.
141 municipalities with measurements recorded in at least two years.
The average found in measured homes across the country has been 225 Bq/m³, and 19.9% of the measured homes exceeded 300 Bq/m³ (average of statistics for 2000–2023). The figures describe measured homes: most measurements have been made in areas where radon is known to occur, so the average is higher than the average of all homes (about 94 Bq/m³ according to STUK). The only way to know the level in your own home is to measure.
The laboratory measurement is the official annual average. A digital meter shows the concentration immediately and continuously, so you can see, for example, the effect of a repair or the situation in a cottage. Prices are price-comparison levels as of 10/2026 and may change.
The most common remedies are a radon blower or well, sealing the base floor and penetrations, and adjusting ventilation. The most effective method depends on the house and the soil, so the repair should be planned with a professional and measured again afterwards. The labour part of the repair work may qualify for the household deduction.
Tell us about the property and we will find a radon measurement or remediation company for you and pass your request on to it with your consent. The request is free of charge and non-binding. You can also order a home measurement yourself right away From STUK or a measurement service approved by STUK.
The reference value for the annual average radon concentration in a home's indoor air is 300 Bq/m³. For new construction the design value is 200 Bq/m³ (STUK).
The measurement season is 1.9.–31.5., and the measurement must last at least two months. Two meters are usually used: one in the living room and one in the bedroom.
STUK's laboratory measurement gives the official annual average. A digital meter shows the concentration continuously and suits monitoring, checking the effect of a repair and a cottage. A consumer meter is not an official measurement.
According to STUK, after smoking radon is the most significant cause of lung cancer: in Finland about 150–270 lung cancer cases a year are linked to radon.
